The Teaching and Learning Team (TLT) invites you to submit a proposal for the 6th Annual Teaching, Learning, and Technology Conference (TLTCon) – May 17-18, 2022. This local conference, with global reach, offers presenters an opportunity to share and discuss best practices and lessons learned in all aspects of teaching and learning. All sessions will be hosted live via Zoom. 

The call for proposals will close on Thursday, February 3, 2022. The conference committee will review all proposals and send out acceptance/rejection emails by March 1, 2022. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Chris Meshanko, 2022 Conference Committee Chair.

Session formats
  • Classic presentation
    • An interactive session where one or more presenters share content and engage participants in discussion.
  • Panel discussion
    • A roundtable-style discussion where three or more presenters share their experiences and lesson learned.

    • An interactive session where one or more presenters share content and engage participants in group work, activities, or exercises that produce a deliverable(s).

TLTCon’s 2022 Keynote Speaker

The TLT is excited to announce our TLTCon keynote speaker for the 2022 conference: Derek Bruff

headshot of derek bruffDerek Bruff is assistant provost and executive director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching, as well as interim director of the Vanderbilt Digital Commons and a principal senior lecturer in the Vanderbilt Department of Mathematics.

As assistant provost, Bruff plans and oversees faculty development and educational initiatives for the Office of the Provost. At the Center for Teaching, he directs programming for faculty and other instructors, helping them develop foundational teaching skills and explore new ideas in teaching. At the Digital Commons, he oversees programming to help faculty develop the digital technology skills they need for research and teaching.

Bruff is the author of Intentional Tech: Principles to Guide the Use of Educational Technology in College Teaching (West Virginia University Press, 2019) and Teaching with Classroom Response Systems: Creating Active Learning Environments (Jossey-Bass, 2009). His scholarly interests include educational technology and faculty development, and he writes about these and other topics on his blog, Agile Learning. Bruff is also producer and host of the podcasts Leading LinesVandyVox, and One-Time Pod.

Bruff has a PhD in mathematics from Vanderbilt University. He has taught undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses at Vanderbilt and Harvard University.

The Teaching, Learning, and Technology Conference is designed to bring together expertise from educational institutions across the region, spotlight teaching excellence, and provide a space for idea sharing and networking.  TLT is excited to provide this opportunity for greater campus discussion and collaboration about pedagogy and instructional technologies.  

The TLTCon will be delivered in an online, conference-style format where participants will be able to choose sessions that are the most attractive and relevant to their own professional development.  Session types will include panel presentations, spotlight sessions, working groups and a special keynote speaker.  During and in-between sessions there will also be spaces where participants can continue the conversation with colleagues and reflect on their own teaching practices.
