As you start to get ready for the next semester I thought it might be a great time to remind everyone that you don’t have to recreate the wheel each semester.  You can reuse all your past course material, quizzes, tests, assignments and grade books in your new classes with a few clicks.

A few things to remember:

  • When copying course material remember you are copying INTO the course so you will start the process in the new semester’s course shell.
  • It’s also important to note that copying into a course in non-destructive.  You can copy material into a course that already contains content.  You can also copy content from several courses into one without deleting any material.
How to copy from one OAKS course to another:
  1. Begin in your new OAKS class (the one that does NOT already contain the content you want).
  2. Click the Edit Course link from the upper navigation.
  3. Choose Import / Export / Copy Components from the right side of the window.
  4. Select Copy Components from Another Org Unit then click Next.
  5. From the dropdown list, under Existing Offering, select the course with the material you wish to copy (ex. the Spring course).
  6. Once you select the class a new list will display all the items that are in the course and available for copy.
    • If you wish to copy the entire course, check the box next to Select All Components.
    • If you wish to copy only select items, check the box next to the items you wish to copy.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  Some items needs to be copied together in order to work.  For example, If you choose Content you must also choose Course Files, if you chooseGrades you should also choose Grade Settings, if you choose Quizzes you should also choose Question Library.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Continue to click Next until you get through all the prompts.
  9. When finished click Done.
  10. You will be taken back to the original Import/Export/Copy Components screen when the process is complete.
  11. You can repeat this process until you have all the material from different courses that you need.
  12. Click back on Course Home and you should see that your course material has been copied from your old course(s) to your new course.
